Brimingham Spanish AcademyAccording to U.S. Census data, the total population of Birmingham is 217,131. While only about three percent of the Birmingham population is Hispanic/Latino, ninety percent of these Hispanics/Latinos speak Spanish at home. Birmingham locals can get a taste of Hispanic culture at the Summer Latino Festival at Northeast Alabama Community College. This small afternoon event includes family-oriented entertainment, authentic Latin food, special children’s activities, and souvenir vendors. For those looking for something a little bigger, Atlanta’s Festival Peachtree Latino is the largest celebration of its kind in the southeast. Over 70,000 attendees spend a day in Atlanta enjoying authentic food vendors, live music, arts and crafts, souvenirs, special things for kids to do, and parades. Atlanta is only a few hours from Birmingham, and it’s well worth the trip for your whole family. The cultural makeup of Birmingham is changing to reflect the growing Hispanic population. This is a great time for your family to start learning Spanish and enjoying the cultural offerings of your new Spanish-speaking friends and neighbors. Why do you believe the youth of Birmingham should study Spanish? Leave us your feedback using the form on the right side of the page. |
